“I was confused about how to implement intuitive eating. It was scary to do it alone and I was particularly worried about giving myself permission to fully eat whatever I wanted when I didn't feel fully confident that I was doing intuitive eating "right".

Giving up diet culture has completely transformed my life. I now realize how much time and energy I was devoting to controlling my diet and exercise. It was a miserable obsession! I now have the time and space to explore who I actually am, and what I am passionate about.

Working with a coach was absolutely key to my success in giving up diet culture. Just living in our society (particularly as a woman) we are constantly immersed with messages that we need to shrink our bodies, avoid "bad" foods, eat clean, etc. It is overwhelming to tackle this alone. But, with a coach I felt supported and brave enough to stay the course, and also felt like I had access to a whole new community of like-minded people.

Coaching not only helped me to implement the principles of intuitive eating, it provided me with the support I needed to give up diet culture and begin to accept my body as it is. Having somebody that I could share my deepest fears with was invaluable. It was a relief to be able to talk about my struggles with food and body image in a safe and supportive environment.

The beliefs that diet culture instills in us - that we can't trust ourselves, that our bodies are should be different - are not true and can be unlearned and rejected.

There is a way to live in the world where we feel completely at ease with ourselves, nourish our bodies and move in a way that feels right for us. It is scary to go against the flow, when so many people are still subscribing to diet culture. Luckily there is a wonderful community of people who are also committed to rejecting diet culture and accepting themselves, and others as they are.

Rejecting diet culture is about more than feeling at peace with food or our bodies, it is about discovering who we truly are, and following our passions in this one precious life.
